Antarctic wildlife
The wildlife of Antarctica and the sub-Antarctic islands survives in extreme conditions. Penguins are iconic of this region. The birds and mammals spend most of their life at sea but come ashore to breed. This gallery includes a small selection of my images from the region.
The yellow patch on the head and neck of the King Penguin, in the shape of a comma, is very pronounced when the birds tuck their head under their wing to sleep.
