Antarctic wildlife
The wildlife of Antarctica and the sub-Antarctic islands survives in extreme conditions. Penguins are iconic of this region. The birds and mammals spend most of their life at sea but come ashore to breed. This gallery includes a small selection of my images from the region.
Rockhopper Penguins, one of the crested penguins nest on the Falkland Islands. This penguin is making its way through the Tussock grass to its nest.
Interestingly they frequently nest among nests of the much larger Black-browed Albatross apparently gaining some benefit from each other.
