Antarctic wildlife
The wildlife of Antarctica and the sub-Antarctic islands survives in extreme conditions. Penguins are iconic of this region. The birds and mammals spend most of their life at sea but come ashore to breed. This gallery includes a small selection of my images from the region.
The Snow Petrel is pure white with a black bill and legs and is a species of the Antarctic ice. It is a startlingly beautiful bird. This individual is reflected in the icy waters of the Drygalski Fjord on the souther tip of South Georgia.
