Antarctic wildlife
The wildlife of Antarctica and the sub-Antarctic islands survives in extreme conditions. Penguins are iconic of this region. The birds and mammals spend most of their life at sea but come ashore to breed. This gallery includes a small selection of my images from the region.
The gigantic Southern Elephant Seal breeds on sub-Antarctic islands, particularly South Georgia. The bulls fight to retain their harems. At the end of the breeding season the younger bulls continue to spar while King Penguins swarm on the beach.
