Antarctic wildlife
The wildlife of Antarctica and the sub-Antarctic islands survives in extreme conditions. Penguins are iconic of this region. The birds and mammals spend most of their life at sea but come ashore to breed. This gallery includes a small selection of my images from the region.
The solitary Leopard Seal is an important predator in Antarctic waters yet half its diet comprises krill! They are seen lying on ice floes resting between meals. They are usually motionless but occasional movement and a yawn highlights their reptilian like appearance.
