Antarctic wildlife
The wildlife of Antarctica and the sub-Antarctic islands survives in extreme conditions. Penguins are iconic of this region. The birds and mammals spend most of their life at sea but come ashore to breed. This gallery includes a small selection of my images from the region.
The Magellanic Penguin lives on the warm fringes of Antarctica. They come ashore and nest in burrows in Patagonia and the Falkland Islands. This individual appears to have a tranquil 'tropical' beach to itself. The location is Gypsy Cove close to Stanley on East Falkland.
