Antarctic wildlife
The wildlife of Antarctica and the sub-Antarctic islands survives in extreme conditions. Penguins are iconic of this region. The birds and mammals spend most of their life at sea but come ashore to breed. This gallery includes a small selection of my images from the region.
The yellow eye and red bill of the Magellanic Oystercatcher are dramatic. On the Falkland Islands there are few predators and most birds are unconcerned about the presence of humans. This bird was nesting on the beach of Carcass Island.
