Antarctic wildlife
The wildlife of Antarctica and the sub-Antarctic islands survives in extreme conditions. Penguins are iconic of this region. The birds and mammals spend most of their life at sea but come ashore to breed. This gallery includes a small selection of my images from the region.
Weddell Seals pups may be seen hauled out on the beaches around the Antarctic Peninsula resting. They sleep without moving for hours. This image captures the tranquility of their sleep.
