Antarctic wildlife
The wildlife of Antarctica and the sub-Antarctic islands survives in extreme conditions. Penguins are iconic of this region. The birds and mammals spend most of their life at sea but come ashore to breed. This gallery includes a small selection of my images from the region.
Chinstrap Penguins search out nesting sites free from snow. These are usually at elevation with penguins climbing to great heights. This penguin was sitting tight on its nest in a blizzard that encrusted the rocks around the nest.
The image has been converted to black and white, but all that changed colour was the eye.
