Among Antarctic travellers Elephant Island holds a fascination as the remote and inaccessible island on which Sir Ernest Shackleton set up camp after escaping from the Weddell Sea.
From here he set off in a small boat and sailed to South Georgia and eventually rescuing all his men from Elephant Island.
